Job summary

Atlantic Health System is seeking a HIM Inpatient Coder for a remote, part-time role (approximately 22.5 hours per week) in Morristown, NJ. The coder will handle inpatient coding, including diagnosis, POA indicators, and procedures, and will abstract relevant information to accurately reflect the encounter.

The position involves reviewing CDI notes, collaborating with the CDI team, and employing physician queries when documentation is unclear.

Responsibilities

• Codes inpatient records capturing all diagnosis, POA indicators, and procedures and validates key UHDDS elements as well as abstracts pertinent information from patient records, to accurately reflect the patient’s encounter.
• Reviews CDI concurrent review notes and works with the CDI Team to ensure optimal code capture on all cases. Ensures optimal reimbursement in compliance with CMS policies and procedures and Official Coding Guidelines
• Implements AHS physician query process when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the medical record is inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes
• Completes coding of all discharges/encounters ensuring the minimum productivity requirement of 10/day is met as well as a 95% accuracy rating. Assignments include Inpatient acute care, Inpatient Psych, Inpatient Hospice, and Newborn
• Monitors the Coding Priority WQ throughout the day as to clear cases each day.
• Ensures cases never remain on any WQs for >3 days.
• Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements
• Works with their assigned Lead to review coding questions and engage in coder feedback sessions; attends all coding meetings.
• Brings identified concerns to leadership
• Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association
• Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
