Job summary

Cognizant invites applications for an Inpatient Coder (CCS Certified) to work remotely in the United States. The role reviews medical documentation to assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedures, while engaging with physicians to clarify entries and supporting coding quality in a fast-paced, home-based environment.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of facility-based inpatient coding, Level 1 Trauma coding experience, and Epic proficiency.

Qualifications

• Three years of facility-based inpatient coding experience with ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS.
• Active CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, or CIC credential.
• Level 1 Trauma coding experience required.
• Epic experience required.

Responsibilities

• Review documentation to code diagnoses (ICD-10-CM) and procedures (ICD-10-PCS).
• Communicate with physicians to obtain or clarify diagnoses and/or procedures through the query process.
• Assign accurate codes using an electronic encoder application in accordance with practice policy and regulatory guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews of coding auditors and coders.
• Complete reports as requested.
• Maintain a minimum accuracy rate of 98%.
• Meet inpatient productivity expectations: 16 encounters per day, 2 per hour, 30 minutes per encounter.
