Job summary

Optum Insight is seeking a qualified medical coder to join our hospital-based coding team. The role focuses on inpatient professional services in hospital settings, requiring expertise in CPT-4 and modifiers for hospitalist and intensivist coding. You will review charts, ensure coding accuracy, and provide feedback to care providers.

Applicants must hold AHIMA or AAPC credentials, with 5+ years in coding and 2+ years in hospitalist/intensivist coding. Telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Current coding credentials from AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H)
• 5+ years of coding experience
• 2+ years of Hospitalist and Intensivist coding experience
• Intermediate proficiency with Windows including MS Excel and EMR systems & billing systems

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate assignment of CPT-4 and modifiers for inpatient professional services in a hospital setting
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding
• Adhere to coding ethics per AHIMA and/or AAPC
• Maintain required performance levels for coding quality and productivity
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians as appropriate
• Stay up-to-date on coding knowledge via materials from Coding Supervisors
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
• Review and maintain records of charts coded, held, or missing
• Other duties as assigned
