Optum Insight is seeking an experienced medical coder to assign CPT-4 codes and modifiers for inpatient hospital services from locations across the United States. You will review charts, ensure AHIMA/AAPC standards, and maintain high quality and productivity while collaborating with providers and the coding team.

The role requires 5+ years of coding experience, hospitalist/intensivist coding, and proficiency with EMR and billing systems. Telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current AHIMA or AAPC credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H) required.
• 5+ years of coding experience required.
• 2+ years of Hospitalist and Intensivist coding experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Windows, MS Excel, EMR and billing systems preferred.

• Adhere to coding standards set by AHIMA or AAPC and Optum360.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity targets.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Stay up-to-date with coding knowledge via provided materials and meetings.
• Review coded charts and maintain records of charts coded, held, or missing.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Identify appropriate assignment of CPT-4 and modifiers for Inpatient professional services provided in a hospital setting
• Abstract additional data elements during the chart review process when coding, as needed
• Adhere to the ethical standards of coding as established by AAPC and / or AHIMA
• Adhere to and maintain required levels of performance in both coding quality and productivity as established by Optum360
• Proficiency in coding hospitalist and intensivist services based on coding guidelines
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge by reviewing materials disseminated / recommended by the Coding Supervisors
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
• Review and maintain a record of charts coded, held, and / or missing
• All other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Current coding credentials from AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H)
• 5+ years of coding experience
• 2+ years of experience working with Hospitalist and Intensivist coding experience
• Intermediate level of proficiency with Windows environment including MS Excel and EMR systems & billing systems

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of ICD-10 experience
• 2+ years of inpatient professional coding experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as.

The hourly pay for this role will range from $20.00 to $36.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
