Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Data Engineer and Architect to support VA healthcare data integration. You will analyze source databases and develop objects for the Corporate Data Warehouse, focusing on data ingestion, PHI/PII classification, and governance.

You will design data models, implement metadata workflows, and collaborate with DBAs, ETL teams, and data stewards to ensure CDW quality and security across enterprise systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher with relevant IT experience, plus 14+ years or 10+ with Master’s.
• Healthcare data domain knowledge and Millennium experience.
• PHI/PII handling across multiple systems.
• Advanced T-SQL, indexing, partitioning, and performance tuning.
• Experience with SSIS/SSAS and Power BI for data integration and visualization.
• Strong data modeling and metadata management capabilities.
• Familiarity with CDW standards and data governance processes.
• Ability to collaborate with SMEs, DBAs, ETL developers, and source extraction teams.

Responsibilities

• Analyze source systems (VistA, Millennium, ADR, MVI, Geospatial, PIT, Exam Management) to define data structures and rules.
• Design and maintain database objects (tables, views, stored procedures) for CDW ingestion.
• Build conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise data integration.
• Document transformations and mapping for CDW consistency.
• Collaborate with data stewards, DBAs, ETL developers, and source teams across the lifecycle.
• Create and deploy data models and metadata using the MDR Editor; contribute to workflow upgrades.
• Develop and maintain Data Domain Design Documents and data lineage flows.
• Ensure compliance with CDW standards, governance, security, and enterprise architecture.
• Investigate data quality issues and resolve through root-cause analysis with teams.
