Job summary

Free Law Project is seeking a strategic, hands-on Development Director to synthesize fundraising opportunities and develop a plan to optimize and execute them. You will recruit and hire support as needed, expand the donor base, and work with the executive director to increase donations.

The role is fully remote in the United States, with priority given to candidates who can collaborate across programs and stakeholders. Strong Web and digital fundraising experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of fundraising experience with measurable results.
• Track record in major gifts, individual giving, institutional fundraising, digital fundraising, or corporate partnerships.
• Experience with online fundraising and digital communications.
• Interest in building and leading a small fundraising team as the program grows.
• Ability to work independently, stay organized, and manage time effectively.
• Strong collaboration with peers, board members, and volunteers.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent lived experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead annual giving and pursue opportunities across major gifts, online fundraising, planned giving, corporate partnerships, and foundation grants.
• Build systems and processes to support and scale the fundraising program, including donor data management, prospect tracking, gift acknowledgment, stewardship, revenue forecasting, and reporting.
• Evaluate opportunities to establish or fund an endowment or pseudo-endowment.
• Manage fundraising platforms and tools directly or via additional staff as the program grows.
• Develop compelling proposals, donor correspondence, and other fundraising materials.
• Represent Free Law Project with donors, funders, partners, and other key constituencies.
