Job summary

Averro is seeking a System Design Engineer for a fully remote role interfacing with suppliers on advanced nuclear projects. You will drive design from requirements through final delivery, coordinating with engineers and vendors to ensure hardware aligns with design intent.

Responsibilities include overseeing analyses, integrating hardware into system designs, applying design codes (ASME, IEEE, NFPA, etc.), and guiding engineering teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university and 5+ years direct experience with mechanical systems.
• Experience in high temperature and multi-discipline integration with nuclear handling process systems or related areas is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in fluid and structural analysis and tolerance analysis.
• Experience working with quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.

Responsibilities

• Design of nuclear and industrial components and systems from requirements through final design.
• Provide oversight to vendors developing mechanical system and component designs for the reactor.
• Coordinate reviews of analyses (thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer) and integrate results into plant design delivery.
• Integrate as-designed hardware into overall system design.
• Identify and apply correct design codes (ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.) to plant systems.
• Provide technical direction to engineers on nuclear and non-nuclear design standards.
• Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria to complex mechanical design.
• Support planning and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system and overall plant design delivery.
• Interface with design team to create/manage drawing packages (P&IDs, 3D models, system interface drawings).
• Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects and coordinate technical reviews of deliverables.
• Establish and maintain system requirements and engineering design specifications for major plant equipment.
• Propose, initiate, and oversee testing programs for plant system qualification as needed.
• Generate design packages for systems and equipment including calculations, design reports, and drawings.
