Job summary

Hadron Energy, Inc. in the San Francisco Bay Area is seeking a Component Design Engineer to advance safe, scalable nuclear technology. This full-time role combines design, analysis, and fabrication oversight for containment structures within a micro modular reactor context.

The position requires deep ASME knowledge, rigorous documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet NRC/industry standards. Hybrid work may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in equipment design or nuclear component engineering.
  • Deep understanding of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, or similar (e.g. Section VIII Division 2).
  • Experience with quality programs like ASME NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for reactor structures and pressure boundary components (vessels, piping, and supports).
  • Prepare, check, and certify Design Specifications and review Design Reports per ASME Section III requirements.
  • Prepare and review pressure boundary evaluations, including stress and fatigue evaluations.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams to define design requirements, optimize component performance, and resolve technical issues.
  • Collaborate with the licensing team to support domestic and international regulatory efforts, including 10 CFR 50.55a programs (Inservice Inspection and Testing).
  • Support the development of design and general arrangement drawings; review fabrication drawings, weld requirements and material selection.
  • Propose innovative design solutions for next-generation advanced reactors, using independent judgment to interpret project scope and requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support the implementation of engineering standards across the organization.
