Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Access & Authorization to shape authentication and authorization systems across Coinbase products. You will design and operate secure, high‑throughput services in production, partnering with many teams to balance security, usability, and compliance.

You will own complex initiatives from design to rollout, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor engineers while delivering scalable access control at a global fintech scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Go or a comparable systems-oriented language.
• Experience designing secure APIs, authentication, authorization, and token handling (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs).
• Proficiency with gRPC and Protocol Buffers; familiarity with Redis or DynamoDB and observability practices.
• Track record delivering cross-functional projects from design to production with clear communication.
• Ability to use generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, account recovery, and edge authorization.
• Build secure Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase's web, mobile, API, and partner experiences with strong observability and SLOs.
• Lead designs for signed authorization tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, device-aware authentication, and mobile OAuth.
• Partner with product, security, fraud, and infrastructure teams to balance customer conversion, account protection, regulatory needs, and engineering constraints.
• Simplify integration patterns and build self-service tooling enabling product teams to adopt access and authorization safely at scale.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through design reviews, pairing, code reviews, and on-call participation.
