Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer on the Access & Authorization team to shape authentication and authorization capabilities that secure customers’ access across Coinbase products and partner integrations.

You will build and operate secure, high-throughput Go services, design scalable APIs, and mentor engineers while aligning with product, security, and infra teams to balance user experience and security. Coinbase is remote-first with quarterly in-person surges.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Designing secure APIs with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs, or PKCE.
• Proficiency with gRPC and Protocol Buffers; experience with Redis or DynamoDB.
• Track record delivering cross-functional projects and clear communication.
• Responsible use of AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, and edge authorization.
• Build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase platforms.
• Lead technical designs for initiatives like signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, device-aware auth, and mobile OAuth.
• Partner with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance conversion, security, and compliance.
• Simplify integration patterns and build self-service tooling for scale.
• Mentor engineers and elevate technical bar through reviews and on-call participation.
