Job summary

Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for Access & Authorization. You will shape authentication and authorization across our distributed services, balancing security with a simple user experience.

You’ll build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services powering web, mobile, API, and partner integrations. The role emphasizes end-to-end design, cross-team collaboration, and leadership in design reviews, incident response, and on-call work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering with Go or another systems language.
• Experience designing secure APIs and handling authentication/authorization, sessions, and tokens.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, and edge authorization.
• Build low-latency Go and gRPC services across Coinbase platforms with strong observability and SLOs.
• Lead technical designs for signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, and device-aware auth.
• Collaborate with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance UX, security, and compliance.
• Build self-service tooling to let product teams adopt access capabilities safely at scale.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and on-call participation.
