Job summary

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Underwriting Specialist for Brokerage Excess (E&S/Specialty). The role focuses on complex risk analysis, pricing, and terms for Excess Casualty, working with brokers to achieve production and loss ratio goals.

It involves reviewing claims history, selecting reinsurance, and mentoring junior underwriters. Ideal candidates have 5 years of E&S underwriting experience and knowledge of wholesale broker systems, with a willingness to travel

Qualifications

• Five years as an CL underwriter; excess & surplus lines experience preferred.
• Knowledge of CL underwriting policies and practices; insurance law and underwriting marketing principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups.
• Ability to use job-related computer software and devise business solutions.

Responsibilities

• Review risks with brokers and determine acceptability, pricing, endorsements, and exclusions.
• Place reinsurance per guidelines and manage broker relationships.
• Achieve production and loss ratio goals with assigned brokers; monitor premium and loss results.
• Handle mid-term requests and endorsements; review loss control reports and recommend policy changes.
• Travel to broker offices for training or marketing visits and assist in developing marketing ideas.
