Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking a professional coder to join our facility outpatient coding team, including Emergency Department coding. This full-time position offers telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. and requires AHIMA/AAPC certification and 2+ years in ICD-10, CPT, and ER coding.

You will apply official guidelines, maintain productivity, and collaborate with the QM and Coding teams to ensure accurate billing and compliant coding practices.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• AHIMA and/or AAPC credentialing (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers.
• 2+ years of Emergency Room coding experience.
• Intermediate Windows PC experience (Excel) and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Expert knowledge in facility outpatient coding; Emergency Department.
• Identify ICD-10, CPT and modifiers per guidelines.
• Adhere to AAPC/AHIMA coding ethics.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity.
• Understand APC codes and Medicare policies.
• Query physicians when appropriate.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge.
• Participate in coding department meetings and events.
• Additional duties as assigned.
