Job summary

Apex Companies is seeking an Environmental Principal to lead and grow our environmental practice in the Central Region. You will drive organic growth, deepen key client relationships, and leverage national capabilities while collaborating with leadership and technical teams.

The role is a high-impact, externally facing leadership position with office, hybrid, or remote options and occasional travel. Help shape strategy, mentor teams, and deliver exceptional client outcomes.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of environmental consulting, engineering, or leadership with increasing responsibility.
• Established professional reputation with a strong industry network.
• Proven success growing client relationships and winning new business in a consulting environment.
• Proven seller-doer with balance of business development, client management, and technical leadership.
• Ability to identify client needs, shape practical solutions, and support business development with existing and new accounts.
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations and their application to client operations.
• Experience leading large, complex, multi-site environmental programs.
• Ability to develop strategic relationships with executives, technical and operations leaders.
• Strong communication, presentation, negotiation and leadership skills.
• Experience mentoring cross-functional teams and technical professionals.

Responsibilities

• Build and expand strategic relationships with regional, national, and multi-site clients in priority markets.
• Identify, develop, and win opportunities through technical expertise, client networks, and strategic pursuits.
• Lead client calls/meetings and major proposals; collaborate with SMEs to win opportunities.
• Contribute to cross-selling across Apex’s environmental, engineering, and sustainability services.
• Mentor Project Managers to build business development capabilities.
• Provide technical guidance across environmental compliance, site investigations, permitting, due diligence, and audits.
• Support delivery teams with QA/QC reviews and risk-based decision making.
• Monitor regulations and market trends to identify opportunities for clients and Apex.
