Job summary

GitLab is hiring for a leadership role in Nonlinear Productivity. You will oversee initiatives to reduce friction in engineering workflows, review development lifecycles, and prototype durable solutions that can become products.

This remote role replaces ambiguity with data-driven decisions and requires hands-on leadership and deep technical judgment. You’ll report to the Senior Manager or Director and collaborate across engineering, product, and AI-assisted development to scale internal fixes

Qualifications

• Experience using GitLab to manage and improve engineering workflow.
• Proven track record shipping technical fixes that improve productivity or reduce friction.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and building roadmaps from scratch.
• People management experience in small teams or as a working manager.
• Ability to prototype and evaluate solutions directly.
• Good product judgment for internal tools potentially used by customers.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tooling.
• Experience moving internal tools toward customer-facing products is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Survey internal software development lifecycle and code-generation workflows to identify friction and quantify impact.
• Evaluate build, buy, and adapt options with cost, risk, and durability in mind.
• Prototype and review architecture to validate durable fixes before broader investment.
• Hire and manage a small, high-caliber team or operate as a hands-on manager.
• Drive fixes from prototype to internal adoption with cross-team collaboration.
• Build a business case for productizing durable internal fixes in partnership with product.
• Document reusable learnings to avoid tribal knowledge.
• Report impact through metrics and track success of internal fixes becoming products.
