Job summary

GitLab is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Agent Foundations: Agent Execution group. You will lead more than 10 engineers building AI agent foundations across sandboxing, observability, and execution platforms, with emphasis on safety and scale.

You will guide hiring, onboarding, and coaching, partnering with product and UX to ship milestones, and contribute to design reviews and standards for AI tool usage. This is a remote US-based role with a world-class engineering culture.

Qualifications

• Experience managing distributed engineering teams.
• Technical judgment with modern AI coding tools and agent harnesses.
• Ability to guide teams in applying AI to software engineering workflows and decisions.
• Experience delivering results in fast-paced environments with ambiguity.
• Commitment to coaching and developing engineers in an inclusive team.
• Experience building AI products, sandboxing, container isolation, infra security, observability, or reliability engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Agent Tools, Agent Observability, and Runner Execution teams across frontend, backend, and AI engineering, anchored by a staff engineer.
• Grow the group by hiring, onboarding, coaching, and developing engineers at all levels.
• Partner with product and UX to translate ambiguous problems into shipped milestones with clear tradeoffs.
• Contribute to technical design for scalable, safe agent execution.
• Set practical standards for use of AI tools including selection and configuration.
• Coach engineers through ambiguity in a fast-changing space.
• Represent the group across GitLab's AI organization and related teams.
