Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Emergency Department Coder (Remote) to review clinical documentation and accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes for ED encounters, outpatient surgery, observation, and diagnostics.

The role includes both facility and provider coding, including E/M levels, ED procedures, injections/infusions, and EKGs, while meeting strict accuracy and productivity standards in a remote environment.

Qualifications

• Emergency department coding experience including facility and provider (pro-fee) coding.
• Injection and infusion code assignment experience.
• Experience coding ED procedures and E/M levels.
• Proficiency with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation to assign diagnosis and procedure codes for ED encounters, outpatient surgery, observation and diagnostics.
• Assign facility and provider (pro-fee) ED codes and charges, including E/M levels.
• Code ED procedures, surgical CPT codes, injections/infusions, and EKGs.
• Query physicians to clarify documentation and coding requirements as needed.
• Use Epic and encoder applications per client policy with high accuracy and productivity.
