Job summary

The Emergency Department Coder is a remote role for Cognizant, reviewing clinical documentation to assign diagnosis and procedure codes for emergency department encounters, outpatient surgery, observation, and diagnostic encounters. This includes facility and provider (pro-fee) coding, E/M levels, ED procedures, injections and infusions, and EKGs, in a fast-paced remote environment.

Qualifications

• Active CCS, CPC, or equivalent coding credential.
• Emergency department coding experience.
• Experience with ED procedures, injections and infusions, and EKGs.
• Experience coding facility and provider (pro-fee) on same encounter.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation to assign accurate ED, outpatient surgery, observation, and diagnostic encounter codes.
• Assign facility and provider (pro-fee) ED codes and charges, including E/M levels.
• Code ED procedures (CPT), injections/infusions, and EKGs.
• Query physicians to clarify documentation as needed.
• Use Epic and encoder apps per client policy and guidelines.
• Maintain ≥98% coding accuracy while meeting productivity standards.
• Coordinate with team on policies and time off.
