Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Coder for remote work. The role covers ED and outpatient coding, including facility and provider codes, injections/infusions, and EKGs. You will query clinicians, ensure accuracy, and meet productivity targets in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates have ED coding experience with CCS/CPC credentials and Epic proficiency, plus a strong grasp of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines, while maintaining 98% accuracy.

Qualifications

• Emergency department coding experience including facility and provider (pro-fee) coding.
• Injection and infusion coding experience and ED procedure coding.
• Proficiency with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and regulatory guidelines.
• Epic experience is highly preferred.
• Ability to maintain 98% coding accuracy while meeting productivity standards.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation to assign diagnosis and procedure codes for ED, outpatient surgery, observation, and diagnostic encounters.
• Assign facility and provider (pro-fee) ED codes and charges, including E/M levels.
• Code ED procedures including surgical CPT codes, injections/infusions, and EKGs.
• Communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses/procedures via coding queries.
• Use Epic and encoder applications to ensure accurate coding per policy and regulatory guidelines.
