Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a remote Emergency Department Coder to ensure accurate, compliant medical coding across multiple settings. You’ll review documentation, code ED/outpatient encounters, and query physicians for clarifications while leveraging encoder tools.

You’ll also perform audits to uphold a 98% accuracy rate and report findings to leadership. The role supports flexible work arrangements and requires reliability, strong communication, and adherence to regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CCS certification.
• Experience coding and auditing outpatient, observation, ED and outpatient diagnostic encounters.
• Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and regulatory guidelines.
• Experience using electronic encoder applications and coding systems.
• Ability to interpret complex clinical documentation and discuss coding queries with physicians.
• Proven ability to meet productivity goals while maintaining at least 98% accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign diagnosis and procedure codes for outpatient settings and ED.
• Communicate with physicians and staff to obtain clarification on diagnoses and procedures.
• Utilize encoder tools to assign codes per policies and guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews and quality audits of coding professionals.
• Prepare and deliver coding audit reports and recommendations to leadership.
• Maintain minimum coding accuracy rate of 98% and meet productivity standards.
