Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Orlando is seeking an experienced transmission planning engineer to perform advanced power system studies on the BES network, including power flow, contingency analysis, and stability assessments. You will use PSSE, PSCAD, and ASPEN to evaluate system performance and reliability while ensuring compliance with NERC, FERC, and regional standards.

The role requires ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 3+ years of utility planning experience;

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree with relevant experience required.
• Alternative: Master’s degree with relevant experience acceptable.
• Three (or two) years in electric utility operations, planning, or consulting.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced power system studies on the BES transmission network (e.g., power flow, contingency, stability, short-circuit, reactive capability).
• Evaluate regulatory conditions under NERC, FERC, IEEE and regional requirements.
• Independently execute transmission planning studies using PSSE, PSCAD, and ASPEN.
• Utilize Python and Power Query for data analysis, automation, and results evaluation.
• Travel domestically up to 15% and telecommute up to 30 days per year.
