Job summary

Applied Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer focused on power distribution for remote work in the U.S. You will design, research, and document LV/MV distribution products for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, and energy storage systems.

The role emphasizes component selection, electrical ratings, and collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective solutions from concept through production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 1–2+ years in electrical engineering or power distribution product design.
• Experience with low and/or medium voltage AC systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical ratings and develop schematics.
• Experience researching components for specified applications.
• Familiarity with switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, or similar products.
• Proficiency with electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN).

Responsibilities

• Design and support low and medium voltage power distribution products from concept through manufacturing and testing.
• Research, evaluate, and select electrical components per application and ratings.
• Develop electrical designs, schematics, and technical documentation for manufacturing and certification.
• Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and quality teams to ensure cost-effective solutions.
• Support product validation, prototype testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, generators, and energy storage systems.
• Apply NEC/UL and other standards to ensure safe, compliant designs.
• Support projects that impact communities in the greater Minneapolis metro.
