Job summary

Applied Engineering seeks an Electrical Design Engineer for a remote role to lead design and validation across major subsystems, translating requirements into robust electrical solutions.

You will own schematics, BOMs, and drive design reviews, collaborating with cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers. Strong knowledge of power systems, NEC/UL standards, and travel up to 20% within the USA are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration.
• Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators.
• Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC, UL, and industry derating criteria.
• Proven experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance practices.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical power solutions.
• Ability to travel up to 20% within the USA.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas.
• Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs.
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material.
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams.
• Mentor early‑career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards.
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution.
• Stay current with advancements in power systems, microgrids, renewable energy, and power conversion technologies.
