Job summary

Ballotpedia is seeking a full-time, 100% remote Staff Writer to join our Events Team. The role focuses on neutrally presenting important political stories, researching sources, and delivering clear, accurate reporting for readers across the United States.

You will write and update articles on elections and stories, monitor breaking news, collaborate with teams, and contribute to Ballotpedia newsletters. The ideal candidate loves politics, has strong research skills, and can work independently

Qualifications

• Strong interest in Ballotpedia’s mission and neutral reporting.
• Knowledge of the U.S. political system required.
• Experience in writing and editing, with professional or academic background.
• Familiarity with style guides (AP-based) preferred.
• Comfort with research using diverse sources.

Responsibilities

• Produce articles with clear ledes that cover elections and political stories.
• Build and manage assigned articles per Ballotpedia guidelines.
• Monitor breaking news and update articles as needed.
• Develop new articles in response to news.
• Contribute to Ballotpedia newsletters.
• Use and generate procedure checklists to perform tasks.
• Keep the managing editor informed of progress.
• Learn Ballotpedia’s taxonomy of bias.
• Interact professionally with colleagues, readers, and media.
