Job summary

Cognizant is looking for an Emergency Department Coder to ensure accurate, compliant medical coding across outpatient settings. You will collaborate with physicians, coders, and operational teams to support regulatory compliance and revenue cycle excellence.

You will review notes, assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for ED, observation, and outpatient encounters, and perform audits to uphold a 98% accuracy rate while meeting productivity standards.

Qualifications

• Certified CPC or CCS or equivalent coding certification.
• Experience coding and auditing outpatient, ED, and observation encounters.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign appropriate codes for ED and outpatient encounters.
• Query physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures.
• Perform coding audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare audit reports and recommendations for leadership.
• Maintain coding accuracy rate at or above 98% while meeting productivity targets.
