Job summary

Optiv is seeking a Director of Security Engineering to lead the MSS and AFC security engineering practice remotely across the continental U.S. The role focuses on platform architecture, detection engineering standards, data-pipeline design, and SOAR orchestration, while driving continuous improvement and cost efficiency.

You will mentor leaders and engineers, manage staffing and budgets, and partner on scoping, proposals, and offerings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a related field, or equivalent work experience; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Advanced security leadership certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM) and vendor certifications are preferred.
• 10+ years of information security and professional/managed services experience required.
• Demonstrated leadership of security engineering, SOC platform, or MSS delivery teams.
• Strong experience across SIEM, EDR, SOAR, and additional platforms.
• Experience with practice management, offer/sales enablement, and delivering managed security services.

Responsibilities

• Lead the security engineering practice across SIEM, EDR, SOAR and other platforms; manage resources for MSS and AFC.
• Own technical direction and quality of MDR, co-managed SIEM, data engineering, and Tier 1 offerings.
• Establish processes and runbooks; deliver metrics showing continuous improvement and adherence to SLOs.
• Provide practice management, offer management, and sales enablement; participate in scoping and proposals.
• Ensure security, change management, standards, and service delivery policies are followed; act as escalation point.
• Oversee staffing, recruitment, development, performance management, and annual appraisals.
• Stay updated on risks, platform capabilities, and vendor roadmaps; represent Optiv with clients and partners.
• Communicate regularly with executives and clients on stewardship calls and escalations.
