Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Director, Underwriting - Personal Lines to lead our personal lines underwriting unit and drive profitable underwriting results. You will shape strategy, allocate resources, and manage performance with a focus on customer and partner satisfaction.

You will guide a multi-state PL underwriting team, collaborate with Claims, Sales, IT and product groups, and influence underwriting policy while ensuring compliance and financial targets are met.

Qualifications

• Eight years underwriting, customer service or related experience.
• Significant business management and people leadership experience.
• Detailed knowledge of personal lines insurance products and regulations.
• Ability to set strategic goals and priorities.
• Strong analytical skills and communication abilities.
• Experience leading large initiatives or underwriting modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

• Establishes research objectives and practice standards for the department.
• Leads identification of organizational needs that require analysis and directs department in completion.
• Deter­mines priorities and ensures adherence to workflow standards for the unit.
• Directs multi-line underwriting teams in support of personal lines products.
• Translates strategic plans into organizational direction and leads budgeting and hiring.
• Consults with internal and external partners regarding underwriting policy and practice.
• Communicates strategic direction and underwriting perspective to partners.
• Develops internal and external collaborative partnerships across related functions.
• Ensures high level of service to customers and partners; handles escalations.
• Determines and ensures delivery of training and development for associates and partners.
