Job summary

The American Alpine Club seeks a Development Director to lead and execute fundraising strategies across individual giving, planned giving, corporate partnerships, and foundations. This strategic, hands‑on role manages a small team and personally cultivates a portfolio of major donors, driving approximately $2M in annual revenue.

Reporting to the VP of Advancement, the position is remote and exempt, with responsibility for development systems, donor stewardship, and cross‑functional collaboration

Qualifications

• 6+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with demonstrated success and supervisory capability.
• Familiarity with DAFs, QCDs, and planned giving vehicles; experience with mid‑level or major gift programs; CFRE certification is a plus.
• Proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and close five- and six-figure gifts.
• Ability to design and execute a fundraising strategy, manage a development budget, and use data to drive improvements.
• Commitment to AAC's mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute a comprehensive development strategy aligned with AAC's priorities and revenue targets.
• Lead revenue growth across individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations; diversify fundraising streams.
• Develop policies and procedures to ensure clarity, efficiency, and accountability in Development.
• Manage the development budget with forecasting, tracking, and compliance reporting.
• Supervise the Individual Giving Officer and coordinate annual, mid‑level, and major giving efforts.
• Oversee donor stewardship and communications to strengthen relationships and retention.
