Job summary

The American Alpine Club is seeking a Development Director to lead and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies, expanding revenue across individuals, corporations, foundations, and grants. This role manages a small development team and oversees donor stewardship, while personally handling major gifts and donor relationships.

Reporting to the VP of Advancement, the Director will design AAC's development program to support strategic priorities, ensure data-driven decisions, and collaborate

Qualifications

• 6+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with demonstrated success; proven ability to supervise, coach, and support staff (preferred 3+ years of management experience).
• Familiarity with DAFs, QCDs, and other planned giving vehicles. Experience with mid-level or major gift programs. CFRE certification is a plus.
• Proven ability to personally cultivate, solicit, and close gifts at the five- and six-figure level.
• Demonstrated ability to design and execute a fundraising strategy, manage a development budget, and use data to drive decision‑making and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute a comprehensive development strategy aligned with AAC's priorities and annual revenue targets.
• Grow revenue across individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and grants.
• Build and manage the development budget; lead revenue forecasting and compliance reporting.
• Oversee the Individual Giving Officer and manage donor portfolios and strategy.
• Develop donor stewardship programs and compelling fundraising opportunities.
