Job summary

Carestream Dental is seeking a Desktop Development Manager to lead the teams behind SoftDent, PracticeWorks, OrthoTrac, WinOMS, R4 for NHS, and Gestion for French-speaking practices. You will own delivery, code quality, and the health and growth of engineers across the US, UK, France, and Canada.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software development with 3+ years directly managing developers.
• Ownership of long-lived production codebases with real customers daily.
• Track record of measurably improving software quality and reducing issues.
• Experience leading multiple concurrent release trains and distributed teams.
• Experience utilizing large language models to enhance work (e.g., Claude).
• Healthcare or regulated software experience is a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem-management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and grow desktop development teams across time zones.
• Manage a distributed organisation spanning US, UK, France and offshore partners.
• Own predictable delivery across several release trains with clear accountability.
• Raise engineering quality with standards, reviews and regression coverage.
• Prioritise and fund debt paydown to reduce risk incrementally.
• Partner with QA on test strategy, automation and issue reduction.
• Deliver compliance and regulatory work to fixed external dates (NHS contracts).
• Own build and release health for desktop software with DevOps.
• Collaborate with Product Management on intake, scope and readiness.
• Support global customer-reported issues with triage and prioritisation.
• Represent desktop products to senior stakeholders with reporting.
