Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Deputy Project Manager to support the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing complex VA initiatives, including VistA transition and EHR modernization. The role is fully remote within the United States with core hours 8am–5pm ET and occasional weekend support during deployments.

The ideal candidate will bring 15+ years of relevant experience, with VA Enterprise Health IT exposure and agile familiarity, to lead geographically distributed teams and drive

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, CS, Systems, Business, or related technical field.
• 15+ years of work experience required.
• 10 years may be substituted for the degree.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams in a remote environment.
• Agile experience desirable but not required.
• Experience in a large Enterprise Health IT environment, VA.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in managing day-to-day program execution, priorities, deliverables, and stakeholder commitments.
• Coordinate activities across technical SMEs, Data Analysts, Technical Writers, project teams, government stakeholders, and partner organizations.
• Translate client requirements and strategic direction into actionable plans, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
• Monitor scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, issues, and resource requirements across multiple concurrent activities.
• Identify emerging requirements, anticipate challenges, and develop practical solutions before they impact delivery.
• Ensure team activities and risks are tracked, documented, and communicated to leadership.
• Support development of executive briefings, status reports, and project plans.
• Facilitate cross-functional reporting and meetings; drive actions to closure.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and extension of project leadership.
