Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Deputy Project Manager to assist in planning, coordinating, and executing complex VA initiatives, including VistA transition and EHR modernization. The role is fully remote within the United States with standard business hours and periodic weekend support during deployment windows.

The ideal candidate has extensive project management experience in federal civilian settings, strong communication skills, and the ability to translate strategy into actionable plans for dispersed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business, or a related scientific or technical discipline.
• 15+ years of work experience required; 10 years may substitute for the degree.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with good decision-making and interpersonal abilities.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams in a remote environment.
• Collaborating with development, engineering, and project management teams to support solutions.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and supervision.
• Experience in operating in an agile environment is desirable but not required.
• Experience within a large Enterprise Health IT environment, VA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in day-to-day program execution, priorities, deliverables, and stakeholder commitments.
• Coordinate activities across technical SMEs, Data Analysts, Technical Writers, project teams, government stakeholders, and partner organizations.
• Translate client requirements and strategic direction into actionable plans, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
• Monitor scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, issues, and resource needs across multiple activities.
• Identify emerging requirements, anticipate challenges, and develop practical solutions before they impact delivery.
• Ensure team activities, accomplishments, risks, and emerging work are tracked, documented, maintained, and communicated to leadership.
• Support development of executive briefings, status reports, presentations, project plans, and other program deliverables.
• Facilitate cross-functional reporting and meetings, drive action items to closure, and maintain accountability for commitments.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and apply innovative approaches to program execution.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and extension of project leadership, promoting collaboration, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
