Job summary

VetsEZ is seeking a Database Engineer for a 100% remote role on a large federal government project supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). You will design, administer, and optimize enterprise databases using PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and cloud platforms.

Join an Agile team of software engineers, DevOps, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable data solutions, implement backup and DR strategies, and continuously improve database performance across AWS and Azure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT/CS/Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of professional experience in database engineering, administration, or related role.
• Experience administering PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience with AWS and Azure cloud environments.
• Experience with database migration, backup, replication, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with Agile software development and CI/CD processes.
• Strong SQL development and performance tuning skills.
• Proficiency in Java or Python.
• Experience with IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases with architecture, schemas, tables, and indexes.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database performance for high availability and data integrity.
• Develop SQL queries, reports, materialized views, and data solutions for applications and analytics.
• Implement backup, recovery, replication, failover, and DR strategies for on‑premises and cloud environments.
• Collaborate with developers and DevOps to design, deploy, and support enterprise database solutions.
• Evaluate new database technologies and drive continuous optimization of database infrastructure and PaaS environments.
• Take on additional tasks to support team objectives and project success.
