Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Database Excellence Group. You will build and evolve data frameworks and tooling to keep the company’s datastores scalable, healthy, and safe across SaaS and self-managed deployments.

You'll work remotely with a highly collaborative team, focusing on PostgreSQL-backed data health, retention, and lifecycle management, while leveraging Ruby on Rails in a modern backend stack.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with PostgreSQL in large production environments.
• Strong backend design and performance optimization skills.
• Experience working in fully remote, distributed teams.
• Ability to reason about data architecture and scalability.
• Familiarity with data retention and lifecycle policies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and iterate backend features and data frameworks for scalable data at rest and in motion.
• Design and implement data retention and lifecycle management frameworks.
• Build guardrails and checks to prevent unsustainable data growth.
• Collaborate with product, UX, frontend, infra, delivery, and analytics teams.
• Review and improve database-related changes for data integrity and performance.
• Develop tooling such as SQL traffic replay and background operations frameworks.
• Research and implement improvements to data health, performance, and scalability.
• Document database best practices and data architecture guidance.
