Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve controls protecting institutional data across analytics platforms and databases. This 100% remote role supports SNHU-approved states.

You will enforce encryption, access controls, data masking, and secure data pipelines, collaborating with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, Data Governance, Data Engineering, and IT. You will report to the Deputy CISO.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or related field.
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• Hands-on data protection experience: classification, encryption, access controls, masking and DLP.
• Scripting/automation using platform APIs, IaC, or similar tooling.

Responsibilities

• Implements data protection controls across enterprise data estate, including labeling, masking, redaction.
• Operates encryption for data at rest/in transit and manages keys and secrets.
• Enforces least-privilege access models across data platforms and carries out entitlement reviews.
• Embeds security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and sharing workflows.
