Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to design, implement, and maintain robust data protection controls across the enterprise data estate. The role focuses on encryption, key management, and enforcing least-privilege access across platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server.

You will automate deployments, integrate telemetry with Security Operations, and support audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or related field with focus on data protection or database security.
• Proficiency with cloud data and analytics platforms and relational databases including Azure SQL and SQL Server.
• Scripting and automation using platform APIs, IaC, or similar tooling to deploy security controls.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain data protection controls across enterprise data estate.
• Configure encryption controls for data at rest and in transit, manage keys and CMK rotation.
• Enforce least-privilege access models across data platforms and perform entitlement reviews.
• Hardening security configurations for cloud data platforms and databases; assess permissions and audit settings.
• Embed controls into data ingestion, transformation, and sharing workflows; secure service identities and CI/CD pipelines.
• Automate control deployment and evidence collection; support audits and regulatory reviews.
