Job summary

gaiia is hiring a Data Migration Specialist to own data migrations from legacy systems into gaiia's platform. You will collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and the Migration Platform team to ensure accurate, timely migrations with high data quality.

You will map, transform, validate, perform cutovers, and post-migration verification, guiding clients through challenges and developing practical solutions. This is a customer-facing role with a focus on data reliability and documented processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IS/Data Management or equivalent.
• 2-5+ years in data migration, data implementation, ETL, or similar roles.
• Hands-on with end-to-end migration: discovery, extraction, transformation, loading, validation.
• Experience with messy or poorly documented legacy systems.
• Strong data mapping and transformation logic understanding.
• Comfortable exploring new systems and forming hypotheses for data extraction/structure.
• Strong problem-solving mindset with bias toward action.
• Effective communicator with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Able to manage tasks and timelines while owning outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to assess legacy data environments.
• Own migration solutioning: evaluate requirements, design approaches, unblock blockers.
• Explore unfamiliar systems to understand source data relative to gaiia’s model.
• Collaborate with engineers on data extraction and transformation aligned with business needs.
• Unblock challenges with practical workarounds and clear steps.
• Support UAT and verify data outcomes for stakeholders.
• Plan and execute cutover strategy including delta migrations and rollbacks.
• Monitor post-cutover data and resolve production discrepancies.
• Document mapping specs, transformation rules, data anomalies, and decisions logs.
• Track migration progress via project tools and report status.
• Communicate risks and issues to stakeholders and clients.
