Job summary

gaiia seeks a Data Migration Engineer to own end-to-end data migrations from legacy systems into gaiia's platform. You will work in the Migration Solutions team, handling source data exploration, transformation, and production-ready delivery.

You will partner with the Data Migration Specialist and collaborate with the Migration Platform team to build reusable mappings and tooling, ensuring repeatable, auditable migrations in a fully remote environment.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of experience in data engineering, data migration, ETL, or a similar hands-on data role.
• Strong command of ETL fundamentals and data validation across stages (staging, incremental loads, reconciliation).
• Able to query, profile, and reshape data across SQL, Python, JSON, or similar, with debugging of unfamiliar schemas.
• Experience extracting data from relational databases, APIs, flat files, and backups.
• Familiarity with OSS/BSS, telecom, or billing/CRM data models or ability to ramp quickly.

Responsibilities

• Explore legacy source systems to understand structure, quality, and relationships in gaiia's data model.
• Export data via SQL, APIs, manual extracts, and backups.
• Transform data into gaiia's standard format using declarative, version-controlled mapping files.
• Execute migrations end-to-end on the internal platform, including load, validation, reconciliation, and production import.
• Build and reuse mappings, templates, and validation rules to speed up future migrations.
• Contribute improvements to migration tooling and raise larger needs to the Migration Platform team.
• Diagnose and resolve data discrepancies during dry runs, UAT, and post-cutover.
• Document mapping specs, transformation logic, and data anomalies for auditable migrations.
