Job summary

Samaritans, Inc. is seeking a Hey Sam Text Coordinator to provide emotional support via text and assist the OES program during assigned shifts. This remote role operates 30 hours weekly, with day or evening schedules, focusing on Befriending and safety assessments.

The position emphasizes empathetic communication, confidentiality, and collaboration with supervisors and volunteers to serve youth up to 24 years old.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of professional experience preferred.
• Volunteer experience preferred.
• Knowledge of suicide and suicide prevention helpful.
• Experience on a crisis helpline a plus.
• Strong empathy, active listening, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Respond to Hey Sam and OES texts seeking emotional support, including those at risk of suicide.
• Provide empathetic, non-judgmental Befriending.
• Conduct de-escalation and safety/risk assessments.
• Offer resources and information to help seekers as appropriate.
• Document all interactions accurately in real time.
• Meet performance expectations for text volume and response quality.
• Complete continuing education requirements as required.
• Communicate and collaborate with Shift Supervisors and staff on shift.
