Job summary

Volunteers of America is seeking a crisis counselor to provide crisis intervention, conduct safety assessments, and support clients in distress at our Everett, WA location. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health field and at least 1 year of related experience.

You will collaborate with a team, document notes in EMR, and follow HIPAA and mandatory reporting guidelines while utilizing Motivational Interviewing and active listening skills in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a social science/behavioral health or related field.
• At least 1 year experience in mental health or related field.
• Registration as Agency Affiliated Counselor within 30 days of employment.
• English fluency in spoken and written form.
• Typing test minimum 35 WPM.
• Proficient in Motivational Interviewing and active listening.
• Strong problem-solving and information gathering skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask while documenting notes in EMR.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming chats and texts providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
• Conduct safety assessments per policy and Lifeline best practices.
• Manage client interactions to deliver appropriate support.
• Initiate police intervention if there is imminent risk.
• Comply with HIPAA and mandatory reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with online crisis counselor team and shift leads.
• Consult with supervisors on compliance issues including reporting.
• Use Microsoft Teams to engage with remote staff and leads.
• Attend trainings and mentor new staff.
