Job summary

Volunteers of America in Everett, WA seeks a Crisis Counselor I to provide crisis intervention, suicide prevention, information & referral, and brief supportive counseling to individuals in emotional distress. The role involves phone-based interactions and coordination with teams to dispatch appropriate evaluations.

A bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field is required, with 1+ year in healthcare contact centers or mental health counseling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in healthcare contact center and/or mental health counseling.
• Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration within 30 days of employment.
• Typing test score 35 WPM or higher.
• Courteous and professional demeanor.
• Proficiency in Motivational Interviewing and active listening.

Responsibilities

• Deliver crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and brief supportive counseling.
• Conduct client assessments in line with policies and procedures.
• Manage client interactions with appropriate, timely support.
• Document interactions accurately in records and notes.
• Achieve program goals and participate in staff trainings.
• Provide consultations and service coordination as needed.
• Offer back-up coverage for other crisis line programs when required.
