Job summary

The Trevor Project is seeking a Crisis Worker to provide life-affirming crisis counseling to LGBTQ+ youth via TrevorText, TrevorChat, TrevorLifeline, and 988 services. You will work remotely from the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii and join a team that handles high‑quality, independent crisis conversations.

Responsibilities include direct counseling and key administrative tasks, with a focus on safety, ethics, and belonging.

Qualifications

• Experience in crisis care or related settings.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English with strong communication and active listening skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues and youth challenges.
• Quiet private work environment with reliable broadband internet.
• Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years crisis care experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide suicide prevention and crisis intervention counseling to LGBTQ+ youth nationwide via text and chat, and/or phone.
• Adhere to performance measures for handle time and utilization as defined by leadership.
• Follow protocols regarding time off and shift guidance with the on‑shift leader.
• Collaborate with Crisis Counselors (Volunteer and Staff) to support conversations.
• Build trust and provide a safe space for youth to explore sexuality, gender identity, and suicidal ideation.
• Learn, share knowledge, and continuously improve crisis support.
