Job summary

Formic is seeking a Controls and Automation Engineer to design, analyze, and improve deployed robotic systems. You will apply advanced engineering principles and independently solve complex, multidisciplinary problems across Formic's fleet in demanding production environments.

This role blends reactive support with proactive engineering, diagnosing issues, implementing improvements, and partnering cross-functionally to strengthen system stability and uptime.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in manufacturing automation or industrial robotics.
• Strong proficiency in programming PLCs, robots, and industrial control systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced engineering support for escalated technical issues and remediation strategies.
• Diagnose and resolve complex automation failures to minimize downtime.
• Design and implement preventative and predictive strategies to improve reliability.
• Lead system-level continuous improvement initiatives across hardware and software upgrades.
• Analyze production data to identify systemic performance gaps and improvements.
• Provide remote support and triage to onsite teams as needed.
• Standardize equipment configurations to improve repeatability across sites.
• Maintain comprehensive system documentation and change-control records.
• Mentor field technicians on troubleshooting and system health best practices.
• Ensure safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory compliance.
