Job summary

Selective Insurance seeks a Complex Claims Specialist Public Entity Professional Liability for a remote position. You will manage complex claims for public entities, school boards and related specialty groups, following company policies and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include evaluating coverage, negotiating settlements within authority, communicating with claimants and attorneys, and coordinating with reinsurers as needed.

Qualifications

• College degree required.
• Law degree or MBA preferred.
• 8+ casualty claims handling experience, including at least 5 years with complex cases.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and resolve coverage issues for public entity claims.
• Investigate claims via multiple channels and gather pertinent information.
• Present claims and trends to leadership with coverage and exposure analysis.
• Analyze information to assess exposure and determine settlements.
• Evaluate claims within authority and issue denials or releases as appropriate.
• Prepare coverage letters explaining positions to insureds/agents.
• Report trials and attend hearings when needed.
• Coordinate referrals with reinsurers and keep them updated.
