Selective Insurance seeks a Manager of Complex Claims to oversee a team of specialists, ensuring optimal outcomes and superior service for policyholders and agents. The role supports our claims policies and regulatory compliance across multiple offices and remote work options.

The candidate should have extensive litigation experience, deep knowledge of negligence law, and proven leadership in complex claims settings, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Leads a team of complex claims specialists with technical expertise.
• Strong litigation and defense knowledge across complex claims.
• Broad knowledge of state negligence law and related defenses.
• Extensive jury-trial experience and civil venue exposure.
• Experience in complex coverage analysis and large loss evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Plans, controls and coordinates claims activity and workflow within the unit to maintain high service and technical standards.
• Ensures timely settlement of claims and maintains acceptable closing ratios.
• Prepares operating budget for the unit and monitors expenses.
• Recommends claims procedural changes and implements them per guidelines.
• Maintains override capability and authorizes settlements within limits.
• Oversees loss ratios and productivity to comply with standards.
• Oversees allocated claims expenses and performance management.
• Plans reviews and settlement conferences; mediates disputes.
• Requires travel 0-10% with valid driver’s license.
