Job summary

The Mutual Group is seeking an Underwriting Specialist to manage a book of business for profitability and growth. You will review new and renewal submissions, assess risk, prepare quotes, and respond to coverage questions within authority.

You will build strong relationships with agents to drive positive premium flow. Operating in a hybrid or remote capacity depending on location, the role emphasizes independent judgment, training support, and collaboration with risk control, ensuring timely

Qualifications

• Seven years of progressively responsible commercial underwriting experience.
• One to three years in a property and casualty insurance company.
• Experience writing business for churches or religious affiliated institutions preferred.
• Broad knowledge of common terms, practices, processes and regulations in the P&C insurance industry.
• Adept at applying negotiating skills, reasonableness and sound judgment in analysis and decision making.

Responsibilities

• Review new and renewal business for profitability and risk.
• Prepare quotes and respond to coverage questions within the assigned authority.
• Build successful relationships with agents to drive increased, positive business flow.
• Escalate referrals for higher level underwriter review when needed.
• Adhere to service expectations and regulatory compliance with timely renewals and notices.
• Mentor support staff and assist in training of new hires and promotions.
