Job summary

Canto is seeking a Commercial Counsel to lead the in-house legal function, focusing on strategic contracting for a scaling SaaS business. You will design an AI-enabled contracting operation, enable sales, and partner with Finance and executives to accelerate deal velocity while managing risk.

Reporting to the CFO, you will implement playbooks, templates, and workflows across Sales, Privacy, and Ops, building scalable processes from scratch in a fast-growing environment.

Qualifications

• JD degree and active bar membership in good standing.
• 5-8 years of legal experience in SaaS or technology.
• Strong experience negotiating commercial SaaS agreements (MSAs, subscriptions, DPAs, NDAs).
• Working knowledge of data privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).

Responsibilities

• Own negotiation and execution of commercial SaaS agreements.
• Scale contracting operations with an AI-enabled CLM system and templates.
• Lead vendor contracting, privacy, and governance matters.
• Serve as primary legal advisor across commercial and operational matters.
• Partner with Sales, Finance, and executives to balance risk with business velocity.
