Job summary

Canto is hiring its first in-house legal leader to build and scale a modern legal function from the ground up. This role focuses on commercial contracting as a growth driver, owning end-to-end contracting operations and building playbooks across Sales, Finance, and the executive team.

You'll implement a CLM system, leverage AI tools for contract review, and partner with Security and Product on regulatory requirements across the US and international geographies.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of legal experience in SaaS or technology.
• Strong experience negotiating commercial SaaS agreements (MSAs, DPAs, NDAs).
• Knowledge of data privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).
• Ability to build processes from scratch and establish legal infrastructure in a scaling environment.
• Experience partnering with Sales and GTM teams in high-velocity environments.
• Hands-on experience with CLM systems and AI-enabled drafting tools.

Responsibilities

• Own negotiation and execution of commercial SaaS agreements and NDAs with defined guardrails.
• Lead end-to-end contracting operations and implement foundational systems and playbooks.
• Manage risk across vendor relationships, privacy, and governance, including GDPR/CCPA alignment.
• Partner with Security, Product, and executive leadership on AI, data governance, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead the legal function and manage outside counsel relationships across US and Europe.
