Job summary

Optum Insight, part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking a remote leader to supervise a nationwide team of medical coders. The role offers full-time hours, training, and the flexibility to work across typical U.S. business hours with occasional overtime.

You will mentor up to 25 remote staff, ensure coding accuracy, collaborate with HR and IT for onboarding, audits, and process improvements, and liaise with hospitals and clients to uphold standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED required.
• Current Professional Coding Certification with AHIMA or AAPC maintained annually.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• 3+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT.
• 3+ years of Acute coding experience.
• 3+ years of knowledge of OCE, MUE, NCD, LCD, CCI and NCCI classification and reimbursement structures.
• 1+ years of experience working with EMR and Encoder software.
• Proficiency using a PC in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Office Suite and EMR systems.
• Ability to work full time, Monday - Friday with potential overtime.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a remote team of edit coders supporting multiple Optum clients.
• Monitor and coach up to 25 remote employees on performance, attendance and productivity.
• Collaborate with HR and IT provisioning to onboard new staff.
• Perform coding audits.
• Coordinate coverage of edit and denial work queues.
• Collaborate with billing managers to streamline edits processes.
• Act as primary contact to hospitals for coverage and system access.
• Guide coding staff and set team direction.
• Assist in day-to-day operations with management.
• Partner with clients and leadership to uphold corporate values.
• Track performance data to improve coding quality.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma / GED

Current Professional Coding Certification with credentialing from AHIMA OR AAPC (CCS, CIC, COC, OR CPC) to be maintained annually

Must be 18 years of age OR older

3+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT

3+ years of Acute coding experience

3+ years of knowledge of OCE, MUE, NCD, LCD, CCI and NCCI classification and reimbursement structures

1+ years of experience working with EMR and Encoder software

Ability to work full time, Monday - Friday. Shift schedules 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with possible overtime
