Job summary

UVA Health is seeking a Coding Quality Specialist 3 to serve as a subject matter expert in professional fee coding for the Multi-Surgery service line. You will review complex Neurosurgery cases, ensure accurate CPT/ICD-10-CM coding, and uphold rigorous documentation standards.

You will work remotely within a nationally recognized health system, collaborating with providers and revenue cycle teams to improve reimbursement accuracy and compliance while maintaining high quality standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant coding experience required.
• Multi-Surgical experience preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
• Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Independently review, code, validate, and audit complex Neurosurgery procedures, office-based and E/M services.
• Analyze provider documentation to ensure complete and compliant code assignment using CPT/ICD-10-CM and modifier usage.
• Apply advanced knowledge of Neurosurgery operative and diagnostic services and associated E/M services.
• Evaluate documentation specificity, medical necessity, and reporting accuracy.
• Review and resolve coding edits, charge review issues, and work queue assignments (Epic and EncoderPro).
• Interpret NCCI edits, global surgical package rules, LCD/NCD guidance, and payer requirements.
• Identify documentation gaps and compliance risks and determine when queries are needed.
• Support coding quality initiatives through research and education.
